The Boston Red Sox are a committed partner, raising awareness and funds to support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's efforts to prevent, treat, and defy cancer. The Red Sox have been supporting Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund since 1953 in the longest-standing philanthropic partnership in professional sports. The Red Sox support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber for many events and programs, including two signature annual events: WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon presented by Arbella Insurance and Jimmy Fund Day at Fenway presented by DraftKings, both hosted at Fenway Park.
The funds graciously donated by Red Sox fans fuel research and care at Dana-Farber. Those funds have reached far beyond Dana-Farber patients. The Institute has played a critical role in the development of more than half of all cancer drugs approved by the FDA from 2018 to 2022. That is only possible with donations that the Red Sox helped to generate.
“The relationship between the Jimmy Fund and the Red Sox is in our DNA. They drive us to be better on and off the field.”
Sam Kennedy, President and CEO of the Red Sox
Jimmy Fund Captain: Garrett Whitlock
Each year, a Boston Red Sox player serves as the Jimmy Fund Captain, building awareness and support for the Jimmy Fund's mission to strike out cancer at Dana-Farber. The Jimmy Fund Captain attends fundraising events, visits and bonds with patients, and acts as an ambassador for Dana-Farber's research and care mission.
Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Whitlock is our 2025 Jimmy Fund Captain, returning for his third year. As Jimmy Fund Captain, Whitlock encourages fans to step up to the plate and get involved with the Jimmy Fund.
Past Captains include Brock Holt, Nathan Eovaldi, Mitch Moreland, Pablo Sandoval, Will Middlebrooks, David Ross, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Daniel Bard, the late Tim Wakefield, and Clay Buchholz.
“I am grateful to play a small part in helping raise awareness for Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund as we work toward better outcomes for cancer patients. I look forward to upholding the longstanding Jimmy Fund partnership that is ingrained in all Red Sox players. It is a true honor.”

The Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund Award

The Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund Award is the Jimmy Fund's highest honor, presented annually since 1979 by the Red Sox to those who have demonstrated longstanding commitment to the lifesaving mission of Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund.
The 2024 Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund Award was presented to Team Beans and to Herb Chambers Companies.
- Team Beans, led by Andrew Kaczynski and Rachel Ensign, fundraises in honor of the couple’s daughter, Francesca “Beans,” who passed away at 9 months old in 2020 from a pediatric brain tumor. Beans’ family, friends, and community have joined together to create a powerful movement to honor her legacy—raising more than $3.5 million for pediatric brain tumor research at Dana-Farber.
- Herb Chambers has been a dedicated, long-time supporter of the Jimmy Fund since 2015, helping to raise more than $1 million through various promotions and initiatives at dealerships throughout Massachusetts, as well as through events like the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl® presented by Herb Chambers.
