Northeast Classic - Faceoff Against Cancer|2015
In 2008 a University of Vermont student and lacrosse team player was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Thanks to a treatment plan he followed from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute he was able to play in every game his senior year, and is in full remission today.
The University of Vermont lacrosse team learned a great deal about cancer screening and prevention throughout their teammate’s treatment and wanted to share that knowledge with others. So, they founded the Northeast Classic Faceoff Against Cancer Lacrosse Tournament to help educate student athletes and young adults about cancer prevention and screening while raising funds for cancer research at Dana-Farber.
Partnering with the University of Vermont lacrosse teams, the Northeast Classic has raised over $198,448 for genitourinary cancer and women’s cancers research at Dana-Farber. In 2014, the tournament raised over $19,670.
