Mark Scribner’s English Channel Swim for the GVHD & Lymphoma Research Fund|2017
Help support Mark Scribner - a 46 year old triathlete, philanthropist and business leader trying to complete a solo attempt at crossing the English Channel to raise funds and awareness for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Mark is swimming to benefit the GVHD & Lymphoma Research Fund. Chronic graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD) is a serious, common condition that occurs in 50% to 70% of patients who receive stem cell transplant. In GVHD, the newly transplanted donor cells recognize the recipient's normal tissues as foreign and begin to attack, potentially causing life-threatening damage.
Among lymphoma patients, chronic GVHD is one of the major barriers to successful transplantation. Despite rigorous research, morbidity and mortality rates for the disease have not improved significantly over the last 30 years. There is a critical need for new, targeted therapies to prevent and treat chronic GVHD.
The GVHD & Lymphoma Research Fund is under the direction of Joseph H. Antin, MD, director of the Stem Cell Transplantation Program and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, who is a world authority on the research and treatment of GVHD. He is poised to address the significant challenges associated with GVHD and change the course of the disease for patients everywhere.
Support of the GVHD & Lymphoma Research Fund will help Dr. Antin and his team design more successful clinical trials and ultimately provide a better outlook for the thousands of chronic GVHD patients and families who struggle with this difficult disease.
