DFCI President Edward J. Benz Jr., MD and Larry Lucchino at the Jimmy Fund Gallery dedication
Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino, a cancer survivor treated at Dana-Farber in the mid-1980s, has a unique understanding of the special relationship between the team and the Jimmy Fund, and has taken steps since assuming his position in 2002 to build upon the club's already-strong ties with its official charity. "I've always believed that a baseball team has to be more than a baseball team," says Lucchino. "The Red Sox have been great to the Jimmy Fund, but the Jimmy Fund has also been great for the Red Sox — and all of sports — by setting an example for what can be accomplished when people join together to advance a good cause."
