Red Sox fans all over the greater Boston area are joining Rally Against Cancer SM to support the Jimmy Fund and the Boston Red Sox. Plus, team members are trying to win a visit from Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz.

When the Red Sox suit up against the New York Yankees at Fenway Park on Tuesday, April 6, Red Sox Nation is encouraged to Rally Against Cancer to help the Jimmy Fund shut out cancer. Participation is as easy as contributing $5 or more to the Jimmy Fund and wearing Sox gear on April 6. Colleges and universities, K-12 schools and businesses are asked to start a team as soon as possible, as the highest fundraising team in each category within a two hour drive of Boston will win a visit from Buchholz.

"Not everyone can be at Fenway Park to see us take on the Yankees," says Buchholz, "but this is a great alternative for fans to be part of the excitement and to show support for my two favorite teams, the Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund."

Rally Against Cancer is also a great way to build office and school morale. To sign up, participants can visit www.rallyagainstcancer.org and start a team by giving $5 or more to the Jimmy Fund, then encourage everyone in their network to join their team by doing the same. All team coaches will receive materials to assist in building their team. In exchange for their financial contribution, participants wear their Red Sox gear to work or school Tuesday, April 6.

"With family members, friends, and teammates touched by cancer, I know how life-changing cancer is. The work Dana-Farber is doing in cancer care and research is important," adds Buchholz. "Rally Against Cancer is an easy and fun way for everyone to help the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber give hope to the adults and children who are fighting this disease."

Founded in 1948, the Jimmy Fund is an official charity of the Boston Red Sox, supporting the fight against cancer at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for children and adults with cancer around the world. Unrestricted support from the Jimmy Fund is an integral part of Mission Possible: The Dana-Farber Campaign to Conquer Cancer, a $1 billion capital campaign to accelerate cancer research, speed development of life-saving therapies, and expand the Institutes signature patient- and family-centered care.
