Join Steve Carell for A Premiere Cause – June 21
Star of "Evan Almighty" will introduce movie at Boston premiere and fundraiser to support brain cancer research
In Universal Pictures' event comedy "Evan Almighty," actor Steve Carell, reprising his role as the polished, preening newscaster Evan Baxter of Bruce Almighty, is the next one anointed by God to accomplish a mission. At the Boston premiere of the film, Carell returns to his home state to help with a different cause: raising money for brain cancer research.
On June 21, A Premiere Cause, in association with Universal Pictures, will host a special screening of "Evan Almighty" at The Regal Fenway Cinemas at 201 Brookline Ave. in Boston. Carell will introduce the film at the event, which will raise funds for The Zachary Carson Brain Tumor Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Nineteen-year-old Zachary Carson was diagnosed in 2005 with a diffuse pontine glioma – an inoperable, malignant tumor in the brain stem. His doctor, Mark Kieran, MD, PhD, director of Pediatric Medical Neuro-Oncology at Dana-Farber, is one of the few physician-researchers in the country studying this type of tumor, which has a survival rate of less than 10 percent. The funds raised by A Premiere Cause will support Kieran's research.
The idea of the benefit was born from a meeting Zachary and his mother, Roberta Carson, had with Carell on the set of his hit NBC show, "The Office." Roberta, in conjunction with Universal Pictures and a dedicated event committee, has created a night that promises to be a unique chance for New Englanders to attend a premiere with a native son while supporting important cancer research.
