Make waves in the fight against cancer
Boston Harbor 22-mile swim Friday, July 13
Nantasket Beach one-mile & half-mile swims Saturday, July 14

Dive right in to make waves in the fight against cancer. It is time to start training for Swim Across America to support pediatric cancer survivorship programs at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The 12th annual Boston Harbor 22-mile relay swim is on Friday, July 13. The 9th Nantasket Beach one- and half-mile swims are on Saturday, July 14.
This summer you can make a splash alongside Olympians Janel Jorgensen, Jenny Thompson, Carlton Bruner, and Eric Wunderlich among others. Both swim events are open to individuals and teams.
The Boston Harbor swim will start behind the Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowes Wharf at 7 a.m. A minimum fundraising pledge of $1,500 is required for individuals to participate in the full day event. Teams of five or more must raise a minimum of $1,000 per swimmer.
The one-mile competitive ocean swim at Nantasket Beach in Hull, Mass., starts at 9 a.m. from the Mary Jeannette Murray Boathouse. Half-mile swimmers run into the water at 9:15 a.m. Swimmers must raise a minimum of $150 each. Swim Across America is a non-profit corporation that runs events from Boston to San Francisco to support cancer research at the country’s finest hospitals and institutions. Proceeds from the Boston-area swims will go to the David B. Perini, Jr. Quality of Life Program at Dana-Farber. Experts there help pediatric cancer survivors with an array of issues, including long-term effects of treatment, social and psychological concerns and the risk of second cancers.
A silent auction and cocktail party will kick-off the festivities on Thursday night, July 12. Organizers hope all of the Boston-area swim events will put them another stroke closer to raising $300,000 in 2007.
