Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer is a sweet way to celebrate Mother's Day, while helping to battle breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 270,000 women are diagnosed a year with the disease.

To support the 8th annual event, simply buy a dessert costing around $8 at one of 100 restaurants in the Boston area from Monday, May 7, until Mother's Day on Sunday, May 13. One hundred percent of dessert sales benefit the Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund, which supports breast cancer research, education and treatment through the Women's Cancers Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

This year, Boston Bakes honors Wendy English, the late sister of celebrity chef and restaurant owner Todd English. Wendy worked in the marketing department of The Olives Group with Todd. She lost her battle to breast cancer at the age of 42 in April 2006. "I am honored that this year Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer will be dedicated to my dear sister Wendy," says English. "I miss her every day and this tribute is an inspiring way to keep her memory alive while helping to find a cure for this tragic disease." English's Bonfire, Kingfish Hall, Figs and Olives in Charlestown, will all offer an assorted cookie plate, featuring biscotti, to help fight breast cancer.

Along with friends and family, Marjie Brownman Shapiro and her sister Carol Brownman Sneider developed the Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund in 1991 to pay tribute to their mother, Eva Brownman. Eva lost her battle with breast cancer in 1973 at age 44. Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer began in 2000 and has raised more than $190,000. This year organizers hope to hit $225,000.

Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer is made possible by the support of Boston's great pastry chefs, Boston magazine, Charles River Publishing and FOX 25. For more information and a list of participating restaurants visit www.bostonbakesforbreastcancer.org.
