Christmas trees and wreaths to support the Jimmy Fund

For more than three decades during the holiday season Dan Murphy Jr., a Randolph resident and cancer survivor, has been selling Christmas trees and wreaths to support the Jimmy Fund, which supports cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The sale this year will hold special meaning for 85-year old Murphy as he just lost his sister-in-law to pancreatic cancer. Read more

Pan-Massachusetts Challenge gives $33 million to the Jimmy Fund

The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) raised a record-breaking $33 million for cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its August cycling event – $7 million more than the organization raised last year. The total sum, which the organization announced tonight, is more than twice the amount ever raised for charity by any other athletic fundraising event. It is the single largest contribution made to the Jimmy Fund. Read more

The season's first snow

Art galleries in New England will become a winter wonderland starting this October as Robert's Snow: for Cancer's Cure, a benefit for sarcoma research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Mass., gets underway. More than 200 well-known children's book illustrators from around the world, including Mo Willems (Knuffle Bunny series), Kevin Hawkes (The Library Lion) and Patricia Polacco (Rotten Richie and the Ultimate Dare), have been given a five-inch wooden snowflake to transform into an original piece of art to be auctioned off online. An Evening with Champions, Oct. 12 & 13

Top Olympic and world skaters, including Harvard University student Emily Hughes, will do triple axels and toe loops to benefit the Jimmy Fund at An Evening with Champions. In its 38th year, the premier figure skating exhibition will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct.13, at 7 p.m. at Harvard University's Bright Hockey Center. Paul Wylie, a 1992 Olympic silver medalist and class of 1990 Harvard graduate, will host the show. This will be his 23rd appearance at An Evening with Champions. Read more

Peabody Police challenge North Shore Oldtimers for the Jimmy Fund

The Peabody Police Department will step up to the plate to benefit the Jimmy Fund on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3. Members of the police department will challenge the North Shore Oldtimers, a team made up of former professional athletes. Played since 1956, the Peabody Police Jimmy Fund baseball game has become a local tradition to support cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. It is the second oldest continually running event for the Jimmy Fund. Read more

6th Annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon expands to a second day

This year's WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon has expanded to two days for the first time in the five-year history of the event. Olympic swimmers make waves in the fight against cancer in Boston

Just after sunrise on Friday, July 13, seven Olympic swimmers will put on their wet suits to brave the cold water and jump into Boston Harbor to kick-off the 12th annual 22-mile relay swim around the Boston Harbor Islands to benefit Swim Across America (SAA). The Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl®, the nation's largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival, served more than 40,000 ice cream lovers on June 5-7, on Boston City Hall Plaza and raised a record-setting $253,734. The Theatre Collections Program, the Jimmy Fund's oldest annual fundraising effort, first hit the big screens in 1949 to support lifesaving cancer research and care at New England's top cancer center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In Universal Pictures' event comedy "Evan Almighty," actor Steve Carell, reprising his role as the polished, preening newscaster Evan Baxter of Bruce Almighty, is the next one anointed by God to accomplish a mission. American Idols headline 25th Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl

To help celebrate the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl's 25th year, two American Idols will be performing on Wednesday, June 6, at Boston City Hall Plaza.
