Rally Against CancerSM, April 11
Help strike out cancer on Fenway Park's Opening Day
Boston Red Sox fans are invited to show their support for the team and help fight cancer on Tuesday, April 11, opening day of the 2006 baseball season at Fenway Park.
Rally Against Cancer Day asks businesses throughout New England to permit, even encourage, their staff to wear their favorite Red Sox apparel to work. To participate, employees will each contribute $5 to the Jimmy Fund.
"Not everyone can be at Fenway Park on April 11," says Red Sox right-fielder Trot Nixon, honorary chair of Rally Against Cancer, "but this is a great way for fans to show their support while rallying around both the Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund and helping to further cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute."
Interested businesses can register at www.jimmyfund.org/rally. Each business or company will designate at least one coach. Rally Against Cancer Day materials, including a poster and information for placement around the office or business, will then be sent to the coach or coaches. The coaches' job is to get the word out and help their company become a sea of Red Sox gear on Opening Day.
All contributions will be made and tallied online, eliminating the need for businesses to collect and/or send any cash. The top fundraising team will win the grand prize-a workplace visit from Trot Nixon.
"During my time with the Red Sox, I have seen first-hand how devastating cancer can be for families so I want to do something to support the work of the Jimmy Fund," adds Nixon. "Rally Against Cancer Day is a simple, fun way for companies and their employees to help the Jimmy Fund team strike out cancer."
