Newton native designs a holiday card for Dana-Farber's 2006 Greeting Card Collection to help fight cancer

Newton artist Judith Gorgone has been designing greeting cards for the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), UNICEF, and many private manufacturers for years, but this year she is doing it to help fight cancer. She donated one of her original designs to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for its 2006 exclusive holiday card collection. Gorgone says, "It's a way to give back using my talents. I am so grateful for the care and support Dana-Farber has given to my son and my family."
Gorgone's only son, Justin Teague, was diagnosed with colorectal cancer five years ago and suffered a reoccurrence again in 2005. Now 35, Justin just finished treatments, but continues to visit Dana-Farber for regular check-ups as part of his ongoing care program.
Gorgone's card is one of 15 exciting designs in the collection. Two Dana-Farber patients and other local artists created the other cards. Gorgone's "Festive Presents" design includes a whimsical illustration of three contemporary gift boxes on the cover, and says "Wishing you a jolly good time this season" on the inside of the card. Each set includes 15 cards, with 16 envelopes for just $20. Proceeds support cancer research that is used by physicians around the world, and treatment for adults and children at Dana-Farber.
The collection includes cards for all occasions to wish friends and family a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Happy New Year. Some designs are more traditional with winter photos of the Boston Custom House or Frog Pond. Plus, there are Red Sox and Patriots cards perfect for any New England sports enthusiast.
The entire 2006 Holiday Card Collection is now available to view and buy online at www.jimmyfund.org/holiday. After Columbus Day the cards will be sold at Crate & Barrel retail stores throughout New England, and starting Nov. 1, the cards will be sold in the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute lobby at 44 Binney Street, Boston.
