Boston Harbor 22-mile swim Friday, July 14

Start training now for the Swim Across America to make waves in the fight against cancer. This summer marks the 11th annual swim in Boston and the 8th annual swim at Nantasket Beach.

On Friday, July 14, swimmers, including Olympic medallist Janel Jorgensen, will dive into Boston Harbor for a 22-mile relay to benefit cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. On Saturday, July 15, there will be a one-mile and half-mile swim at Nantasket Beach. Both swim events are open to individuals and teams.

The Boston Harbor Islands Swim on Friday gets under way behind the Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowes Wharf at 7 a.m. Swimmers return to the Wharf around 3 p.m. A minimum fundraising pledge of $1,500 is required for individuals to participate. Teams of five swimmers must raise a minimum of $5,000. For every additional teammate add $1,000.

The one-mile competitive ocean swim at Nantasket Beach in Hull, Mass., starts at 9 a.m. from the Mary Jeannette Murray Boathouse. Half-mile swimmers jump in the water at 9:15 a.m. Swimmers must raise a minimum of $150 each.

Swim Across America is a non-profit corporation that runs events from Boston to San Francisco to support cancer research at the country's finest hospitals and institutions. Proceeds from the Boston area swims will go to the David B. Perini, Jr. Quality of Life Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Organizers hope to raise more than $300,000 this year.

A silent auction and cocktail party will kick off the event on Thursday night, July 13. Details to come.
