Joe Cronin Memorial Jimmy Fund Fishing Tournament, Aug. 11
Registration deadline is July 14
OSTERVILLE, Mass. - The 13th annual Joe Cronin Memorial Jimmy Fund Fishing Tournament is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 11, and the deadline to sign up is fast approaching. Those wishing to help reel in better treatments and more cures for cancer must register by July 14. Space is limited for this Jimmy Fund benefit event.
This daylong tournament takes place in the height of the area's fishing season. Supported by Mellon Bank, it honors the life of Red Sox great and former American League president, Joe Cronin. Cronin, who was both a player and a manager for the Red Sox, was an active supporter of the Jimmy Fund since it was first created in 1948 and a resident of Osterville until his death in 1984.
The fishing tournament will be held out of the Nauticus Marina, Oyster Harbors Marina and Crosby Boat Yard in Osterville, Mass. Participants are provided with fishing gear, an on-board lunch, and a fully staffed boat to take them to the premier ocean fishing spots off Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Afternoon activities will be provided for children, and the event concludes with dinner, live and silent auctions, and an awards ceremony.
Organizers hope to raise $325,000 to support the fight against cancer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, helping to raise the chances of survival for those facing cancer here and around the world.
The entry fee is $750 per angler, with other participation levels available. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and cast off is promptly at 8 a.m.
