Have a cow, Sept. 21
CowParade Boston cows up for auction
The 117 cows that have been grazing on the streets of Boston will be disappearing in early September. But not to worry: the cows may be gone from public view, but they are being readied for their new homes at private residences, offices and businesses of the highest bidders.
The bovine beauties will be rounded up, refurbished by their artists, and put on the auction block. Fifty of the most sought-after cows will go to the highest bidders at the "Got Cow" CowParade Boston Auction on Sept. 21, at the Boston Marriott Copley Place. The gala event will take place in the hotel's newly redecorated Grand Ballroom complete with heavy hors d'oeuvres and an open bar.
A "cattle-log" of cows that will be up for bid can be found at www.jimmyfund.org/cowparade. Tickets cost $100 and can also be purchased online or by calling 617-632-5420. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Jimmy Fund, which supports the fight against cancer at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for adults and children with cancer around the world.
CowParade is the world's largest and most popular public art event. Beginning in Chicago in 1999, CowParade has traveled the world in the past six years and has the distinctive tradition of taking art out of the museums and onto the streets for people of all ages to enjoy. Sponsored by Bank of America, CowParade Boston features 117 life-size cows, which have been delighting people of all ages since June 6. The cows will be removed from public view by Sept. 5. CowParade merchandise can be purchased at the Bank of America CowHospital in the Shops at the Prudential Center.
To accommodate the cow-lovers who want to attend the auction, the Boston Marriott Copley Place is offering special cow-related packages. For more information on the packages or to make a reservation, call 1-800-228-9290 or visit www.marriott.com.
