The Studio Presents Two Plays — 'Dressed Up!' & 'Wigged Out!', Oct. 24

Benefits Women's Cancers Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

BROOKLINE, Mass. — The owners of The Studio are presenting a special performance of "Dressed Up!" and "Wigged Out!" on Monday, Oct. 24, at the Zero Arrow Theater in Cambridge to benefit the Women's Cancers Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Located in Brookline for 26 years, The Studio is a women's clothing store owned by twin sisters Ilene Epstein and Sandy Gradman and good friend Marcie Brawer. The two one-act plays are about women and clothes. It's a natural combination.

"We absolutely loved the shows and wanted to share them," says Sandy Gradman, who was successfully treated at Dana-Farber for ovarian cancer in 2000. "The Women's Cancers Program at Dana-Farber is also a special cause to us, so we decided to combine them."

The plays, which explore motherhood, sex and death through clothing and memory, are under the direction of the American Repertory Theater's Karen MacDonald. Veteran writers and actresses Leslie Dillen and Paula Plum use their mothers' dresses and wigs to untangle and understand their relationships with their mothers.

The performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Zero Arrow Theater at Arrow and Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge. All tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the Studio at 233 Harvard St. in Brookline or by calling (617) 738-5091.

In its 11th year, Dana-Farber's innovative Women's Cancers Program funds research into the cures for both breast and gynecological cancers and unifies its many research and clinical efforts in women's cancers under a single umbrella. The result is comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for women facing a cancer diagnosis.
