1st Jimmy Fund Regatta Set Sail Toward a Cure
Newport, R.I., event raises more than $180,000 for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Sailors and their crews on more than 60 sailboats participated in two days of racing in the first Jimmy Fund Regatta. The event, which was presented by Northern Trust and organized by Sail Newport, raised more than $180,000 for Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.
"Thanks to our generous presenting sponsor Northern Trust, to all of our marine sponsors, and to everyone who supported the inaugural Jimmy Fund Regatta, the weekend was a tremendous success," said Mike Andrews, chairman of the Jimmy Fund.
Headquarters for the event was the Newport Shipyard, which also hosted a post-sail party and a gala dinner. In addition to the series of races for a variety of classes of keel boats over the two days, the regatta included a "Sail for Jimmy" race and recreational sail for all classes around Conanicut Island in Narragansett Bay.
