Boston Red Sox Fans Help Raise $1M for Jimmy Fund
Red Sox Massachusetts license plate a best seller
The 2005 baseball season is officially over, but the Boston Red Sox logo is still being seen everywhere — on cars, not uniforms, however. The Boston Red Sox Massachusetts license plate that benefits the Red Sox' official charity, the Jimmy Fund, has been so popular that proceeds from its sales have already topped the $1 million mark.
Introduced in 2002, the Red Sox/Jimmy Fund plate has been the fastest selling of the 12 affinity plates available in Massachusetts. More than 34,000 have been sold; 2,000 orders in October 2004 alone following the Red Sox' historic World Series win.
Featuring both of the well known Red Sox and Jimmy Fund logos, the license plate lets everyone on the road know that those sporting the plate are behind the Red Sox, just like the Red Sox have been behind the Jimmy Fund and the fight against cancer since 1953.
"We thank everyone in Massachusetts who has stepped up to the plate and purchased a Red Sox/Jimmy Fund license plate," says Mike Andrews, chairman of the Jimmy Fund and former Red Sox second baseman. "Reaching the $1 million milestone really speaks to how the residents of this state feel about the team and the Jimmy Fund."
The Jimmy Fund supports cutting-edge cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The initial cost of the plate is $40, with $28 of the purchase price going directly to the Jimmy Fund. At renewal time (every two years), the entire $40 goes to the Jimmy Fund.
To continue this unprecedented support of the Boston Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund and order a Red Sox/Jimmy Fund license plate, go to the Registry of Motor Vehicles website via www.jimmyfund.org/plate and follow the online instructions.
