Mother's Day desserts support Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund

Sweets for the sweet. Boston's best pastry chefs will be creating delightful desserts during the week leading up to Mother's Day, all to benefit the Gillette Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The 6th annual "Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer" involves more than 100 pastry chefs creating unique desserts during the week of May 2–8. Eat at any of the participating restaurants during the week and when you order the special dessert, 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund, a non-profit, grassroots organization that supports breast cancer research and education at Dana-Farber.

In conjunction with Boston magazine, the Professional Pastry Guild of New England, Charles River Publishing, and FOX-25 TV, the Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund has raised more than $130,000 for Dana-Farber through its Boston Bakes event. This year's dessert promotion is in memory of Mary Klein, mother of Pigalle pastry chef Stacy Klein.

Marjie Brownman Shapiro and her sister Carol Brownman Sneider, in association with relatives and friends, developed the Eva Brownman Breast Cancer Fund in 1991 in honor of their mother, Eva Brownman, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1973. The organization was created with the hope that no child would lose a mother, no husband a wife, no mother a daughter, and no one a friend to breast cancer.
