Perennial contributor wins grand prize Hyundai in Burger King promotion

Bob Bailey
EAST HAVEN, Conn. – Bob Bailey Sr. had always contributed to the Jimmy Fund when asked. Now, the Jimmy Fund has given something back to him.
Bailey Sr., a 77-year-old man from East Haven, Conn., bought a scratch card that benefits the Jimmy Fund at the West Haven Burger King while purchasing lunch with his son, Bob Bailey Jr. Both were asked to contribute $1 to the Jimmy Fund as part of Burger King's A Chance for Kids program, which is raising funds for pediatric cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. Father and son each bought one ticket then brought their lunch home.
While eating his meal, Bailey Jr. scratched off his ticket and found that he had won a free order of French fries. His father then scratched off his ticket, revealing that he had won the game's grand prize, a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe.
Bailey Sr. bought the ticket on his deceased wife's birthday. She was diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago and passed away three days later after suffering a stroke.
"I've supported the Jimmy Fund for the past 50 years. Every time I'm asked to give, I do because it's such a worthwhile cause. This is a great 'thank you' from the Jimmy Fund," the elder Bailey said.
Burger King's A Chance for Kids program has raised more than $2.6 million over the past five years for the Jimmy Fund. That support is helping to raise the chances of survival for children facing cancer throughout the world. The Jimmy Fund supports cancer research and patient care for both children and adults at the world-renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Mass.
