Support the Boston Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund
Get your Red Sox Massachusetts plate or play in Fantasy Day
BOSTON – As with every year for the past 85, this could be the year for the Boston Red Sox. So, what can fans do to support the hometown team as they begin the 2004 season and the annual quest for a pennant?
One way is to get licensed…licensed with the Jimmy Fund/Red Sox Massachusetts license plate for their car, that is. Featuring both of the well-known Red Sox and Jimmy Fund logos, the license plate lets everyone on the road know that those sporting the plate are behind the Red Sox, just like the Red Sox have been behind the Jimmy Fund and the fight against cancer since 1953.
An added benefit is that the plate supports cancer research and care at Dana- Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. The initial cost of the plate is $40, with $28 of the purchase price going directly to the Jimmy Fund. At renewal time (every two years), the entire $40 goes to the Jimmy Fund.
To order a Red Sox/Jimmy Fund license plate, go to the Registry of Motor Vehicles website at www.state.ma.us/rmv/express/plates.htm and follow the online instructions.
Put me in, coach/play in John Hancock Fantasy Day What's the next best thing to cheering on your favorite team at Fenway Park? Actually getting to step up to the plate at the hallowed field and trying to swat one out of the park like your favorite Red Sox player.
Red Sox fans and Jimmy Fund supporters get that chance when they participate in John Hancock Fantasy Day to benefit the Jimmy Fund, which is scheduled for Saturday, July 17 (rain date, Sunday, Aug. 1) at Fenway Park.
Packages offered include a Batting Package, a Fielding Package, and a Fan Package. Batters get 15 chances to hit a ball over Fenway's famed left-field wall (the "Green Monster"), while fielders get to test their skills at snagging fly balls or making double plays for an hour on the hallowed field. Fans get to take in all the Fantasy Day action from a prime seat in the stands.
Included for all is a tour of the historic park, including the Red Sox locker room and the Green Monster, plus an all-you-can-eat buffet in the luxurious .406 Club. Batters will have the thrill of seeing their name in lights and hearing a description of their performance announced over the loudspeaker.
Sign up before June 1 and the Batting Package is $1,750, the Fielding Package is $750, and the Fan Package is $100. More than $3.5 million has been raised to support cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through this event. This year's goal is to raise $550,000.
