Put your heart into the fight against cancer on Valentine's Day
CSC/Jimmy Fund Ski Challenge Feb. 14, Nashoba Valley Ski Area
WESTFORD, Mass.—Ski or snowboard enthusiasts and novices alike are invited to show they care and to put their heart into the fight against cancer this Valentine's Day at the ninth annual CSC/Jimmy Fund Ski Challenge at Nashoba Valley Ski Area on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Both fund-raising efforts and speed determine race winners in this friendly competition that helps others in their battle with cancer. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Sponsored by the Massachusetts offices of Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), the CSC/Jimmy Fund Ski Challenge is open to companies, families and friends. All are invited to enjoy the day's competitions and festivities as four-person teams ($240) or as individual competitors ($50).
The race course is set for all skill levels and being the fastest is not the only way to win. For each $150 raised over the registration fee, teams will have one second deducted from their race times. Members of the first, second and third place teams, as well as racers with the fastest gross time, receive prizes. All racers receive a free lift ticket for the day, goodie bag, and barbecue lunch. In addition, free-style legend Wayne Wong will be on before the races to offer advice and tips to competitors looking to improve their style.
"This is a great opportunity for co-workers, families and groups of friends to get outdoors and beat the winter blahs while having a great time together and helping a very important cause," said Didier Putzeys, event chairperson and operations manager at CSC.
In addition to the competition, skiers, snowboarders and supporters are invited to participate in the auction, raffle and awards ceremony after the main event. There will be two grand prize raffle winners, each taking home two round-trip American Airlines tickets. Other prizes include Boston Celtics tickets, Boston Bruins tickets, ski equipment, and more.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. on Feb. 14 at the Nashoba Valley Ski Area in Westford, Mass. Located just 45 minutes from Boston, Nashoba is Greater Boston's largest ski and snowboard area. For more information call Alicia Gallo at (617) 632-3611 or visit www.jimmyfund.org/ski.
