Spring in November at Neiman Marcus
Oscar de la Renta Spring 2004 Collection Featured at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Benefit Luncheon, Nov. 6
BOSTON – Spring will be in the air on Thursday, Nov. 6, as Neiman Marcus and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute present a Luncheon and Oscar de la Renta Fashion Presentation at the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Boston. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will benefit the Women's Cancers Program at Dana-Farber.
Making a rare appearance in Boston, the designer himself will be on hand for this initial unveiling of his Spring 2004 Collection in the city. He will both be present at the luncheon and meet and greet those attending the event. A trunk show will follow at Neiman Marcus on Friday, Nov. 7.
In addition to de la Renta, special guests at this exclusive luncheon include Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, who founded the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1982. Today, the Komen Foundation, which is named for Brinker's sister who had succumbed to the disease at age 36, is the largest private funding source for breast cancer research and community outreach programs in the nation.
Brinker will be honored by Dana-Farber and awarded the Susan F. Smith Inspiration Award, which is presented to individuals who inspire through their work to improve the lives of those with cancer or by the courageous way they deal with their own diagnosis. Past winners have included the late Diana Golden and Smith, for whom the award was named.
Smith, who is the honorary chair of the fashion luncheon, is a Dana-Farber trustee and the driving force behind the creation of the Women's Cancers Program at Dana-Farber, which combines clinical space for the treatment of both breast and gynecological cancers and brings the specialists to the patients, in addition to funding research into the cures for these cancers.
Co-chairs of the event are Trudi Feinstein of Brookline, Michele Kessler of Boston, and Stacey Lucchino, also of Brookline.
A luncheon seat at Oscar de la Renta's table is $2,500. Luncheon tables for 10 are $3,000 apiece. Individual luncheon seats are $300 each. Amounts in excess of $40 per seat for lunch are tax deductible.
Recognized by the National Cancer Institute as one of the world's leaders in cancer research and care, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is renowned for its unique blending of basic and clinical research, and for using its discoveries to improve cancer treatment for children and adults around the world.
