Boston sports heroes, WEEI 850AM, and the Boston Red Sox join together to support the Jimmy Fund, Aug. 22

BOSTON - Calling all Boston sports fans. WEEI 850AM and the Boston Red Sox are hosting an all-day, all-star event, the WEEI Jimmy Fund Radiothon, both on-air and at the ballpark all to benefit the Jimmy Fund on Friday, Aug. 22.

Three special events at Fenway's Players Club and a live radiothon on WEEI have been scheduled to both celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the extraordinary Boston Red Sox-Jimmy Fund connection, and highlight New England's great Major League sports teams—the Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, and the Boston Bruins.

WEEI's own Glenn Ordway will moderate a special question-and-answer session with team owners at the "Breakfast with the Bosses" from 8 to 9:30 a.m. John Henry and Larry Lucchino of the Red Sox, Robert Kraft of the Patriots, Wyc Grousbeck of the Celtics and Jeremy Jacobs of the Bruins will all be featured.

A lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. "Lunch With the Boys" will feature a panel discussion with current Red Sox players and WEEI personalities Dale Arnold, Bob Neumeier, Joe Castiglione, and Jerry Trupiano. The event will include an "insider's" tour of historic Fenway Park, including the famed Green Monster, and a chance to hobnob with this year's players.

From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., New England sports aficionados will have the chance to enjoy cocktails "With the Legends" and celebrate the best of New England sports over the past 30 years.

Sports stars from each of New England's major professional teams in the big four sports, including the Celtics' John Havlicek and the Patriots' John Hannah will be in attendance to discuss their and their teammates exploits on the field, court, or rink over the years.

Those attending this event will also be treated to tickets to that evening's game with the Seattle Mariners and get to enjoy an on-field celebration of the sports legends and 50-year supporters of the Jimmy Fund, which includes the Boston Red Sox, the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police, the Variety Club of New England, and National Amusements Theatres.

Admission to these once-in-a-lifetime events is $150 for the breakfast, $200 for the lunch, and $250 for the cocktail get-together, with all proceeds going to the Jimmy Fund. To get a total sports immersion, sign up for the "Triple Play" for $500 and attend all events, right through that night's game.

Tune into WEEI 850AM for more details—ticket sales begin on air on Monday, July 21. Information is also available at www.jimmyfundradiothon.org. Those interested in attending may also contact Jenn Capshaw at (617) 632-3861 or JimmyFundRadiothon@dfci.harvard.edu to purchase tickets.

Whether you attend the day's events or not, be sure to tune into WEEI on Friday, Aug. 22, from 6 a.m. to midnight or visit the station's Fenway Park (Lansdowne Street) studio for the celebrity-packed radiothon/party to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund. Announcers will be interviewing past and present sports stars, Hollywood and local notables such as Ben Affleck, Stephen King and Anthony Clark; plus some other important, but lesser known "celebrities" — Jimmy Fund Clinic patients and the doctors and nurses who treat them and search for cures.

Founded in 1948 to raise funds for patient care and the fight against children's cancer, the Jimmy Fund supports the search for new cancer treatments and cures for both adults and children at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Ranked as the top cancer hospital in New England, Dana-Farber is recognized by the National Cancer Institute as one of the world's leaders in cancer care and research.
