Play ball to beat cancer
John Hancock Fantasy Day at Fenway Park, Aug. 16
Watching a game at Boston's Fenway Park is fun, whether you're cheering for the Red Sox or their opponents. Being able to step up to the plate or catch fly balls on the hallowed ground of Major League Baseball's oldest stadium is a dream come true for every diehard baseball fan.
John Hancock Fantasy Day at Fenway Park to benefit the Jimmy Fund is slated to be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, [rain date, Aug. 17] and, for the first time, will feature both daytime and "under the lights" sessions. In either, participants get 15 chances to hit a ball over Fenway's famed left field wall (the "Green Monster") or they can test their fielding skills for an hour. Also included is a tour of the historic park, lunch or dinner in the .406 Club with their guests, the thrill of seeing their name in lights and hearing a description of their performance announced over the loudspeaker, plus much more.
Opened on April 20, 1912, Fenway hosted games before any of the existing big league parks. It's tiny, dark and damp inside, but bursting with history — Babe Ruth and Ted Williams played there, to name just a few. Walk in their footsteps by signing up for the $1,750 "Day" or the $2,250 "Under the Lights" Batting Package or field during the day for $750 or under the lights for $1,000. Aspiring ballplayers can both field and hit for $2,500 during the daytime or $3,250 at night.
Presented by the Boston Red Sox and John Hancock Financial Services, an official sponsor of Major League Baseball, Fantasy Day benefits the Jimmy Fund, which supports cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
