Community Newspaper Co. is Jimmy Fund media
sponsor
For the fourth consecutive year, Community Newspaper Company (CNC) will be a major contributor to the Jimmy Fund, providing extensive support through in-paper advertising in its chain of newspapers.
"The support of a company like Community Newspaper and the people who work there is invaluable to the Jimmy Fund and its critical mission of saving lives," says Mike Andrews, chairman of the Jimmy Fund. "Helping us to get the word out about our important fundraising efforts gets more people involved in the fight against cancer."
Programs receiving extensive coverage are the Jimmy Fund Golf Program (runs February through October), the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk (Sept. 21), and a variety of special events. These include the Scooper Bowl (June 10-12), the Jimmy Fund/Variety Club Theatre Collections Program (June 15-July 22), and Fantasy Day presented by John Hancock (Aug. 16). New this year will be strong support of the season-long 50th anniversary celebration of the Boston Red Sox-Jimmy Fund relationship, the most unique and long-standing team-charity relationship in all of major league sports.
Community Newspaper Company is a Herald Media Company and is one of the largest media giants in Massachusetts. The company publishes 87 weekly newspapers and a network of four daily papers — the MetroWest Daily News, the Neponset Daily News, the Daily News Tribune, and the Milford Daily News — reaching more than 140 communities throughout Eastern Massachusetts with a combined circulation of nearly 900,000. CNC also publishes 14 shoppers and the website, TownOnline.com.
"We are proud to be working with such an outstanding organization as the Jimmy Fund," said Robin Lorenzen, vice president of marketing and promotions for CNC. "There are so many people who have felt the effects of cancer, either personally or through a friend or family member. The mission of the Jimmy Fund is very important to us."
Since 1948, hundreds of events, coupled with the generosity of millions of people, have helped the Jimmy Fund save countless lives by furthering cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
"Support like this from Community Newspaper is even more important as the need for funds to support cancer research keeps growing. Our researchers and scientists are learning more about cancer and ways to prevent and eradicate it every day," adds Andrews.
