Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk 2002

On Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, more than 9,000 people will walk the historic 26.2-mile Boston Marathon® route from Hopkinton to Boston to raise more than $4.5 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Here are some facts about the Walk:
- In its 14th year, the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk has raised more than $22 million for cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
- Participants must raise a minimum of $100. Walkers age 12 and younger must raise a minimum of $50. To be a member of the Pacesetter Club, walkers must raise a minimum of $750.
- Walkers can choose to walk the full 26.2-mile route, 13.1 miles, or three miles.
- The 26.2-mile route walk begins at 7 a.m. in Hopkinton Center.
- The 13.1-mile begins at 11 a.m. at Wellesley High School.
- The Patient/Family Walk, three miles, begins at 2 p.m. at the Harvard Medical School Quad, 200 Longwood Avenue in Boston.
- All walkers finish at the Copley Square finish line where they will be greeted with a victory party complete with a band, speaking program and refreshments.
- The Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk is the only event, other than the Boston Marathon itself, that is sanctioned by the Boston Athletic Association to use the historic Boston Marathon route from Hopkinton to Boston.
- Teams of individuals and/or businesses are encouraged to sign up together. Many teams walk in honor of someone who is currently battling cancer or they walk in memory of someone they lost to cancer.
