Shop for shoes on QVC and help raise funds
for breast cancer research and education
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute named a beneficiary of Ninth Annual QVC Presents 'FFANY Shoes on Sale,' Oct. 16
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it's also time to stock up on top quality shoes for the upcoming season. These two things have gone hand-in-hand for eight years at QVC, since the e-commerce leader joined with the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) for QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale" to raise funds for breast cancer research and education.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, New England's own world-renowned cancer research and care center, is one of the six beneficiaries of the ninth annual televised fundraiser, slated to air live on QVC on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET. Additionally, QVC will feature "Shoe of the Day" segments every weekday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., ET throughout the month of October during "The QVC Morning Show."
"We at Dana-Farber are honored to be recognized by FFANY and QVC and to be a part of this year's 'Shoes on Sale' benefit," said Eric Winer, MD, medical director of Gillette Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber. "They've come up with a unique and effective way to provide important funding for breast cancer research and education centers around the nation."
The 2002 "FFANY Shoes on Sale" gala on Oct. 16 will offer more than 100,000 pairs of shoes from the world's top designers at half the retail price. With more than 750,000 pairs of shoes sold since the first benefit event in October 1994, the event is expected to bring the cumulative net proceeds to more than $12 million.
"The Gillette Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute was selected as a beneficiary of 'Shoes on Sale' because of its ground-breaking breast cancer research, state-of-the-art facility, and the level of care provided for its patients," said Joseph Moore, president of FFANY.
Over 50 members of FFANY have collectively donated designer and brand name shoes to the 2002 event and, for the ninth consecutive year, Nine West is the event's Special Benefactor. It will donate 20,000 pairs of shoes from its Bandolino, Easy Spirit, Enzo Angiolini, Nine West, and Nine & Company shoe collections.
In addition to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, other facilities selected as beneficiaries of the 2002 event are: the Joyce Eisenberg Keefer Breast Center at the John Wayne Cancer Institute, Long Island Cancer Center at Stony Brook University, University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, the National Women's Cancer Research Alliance (NWCRA) will distribute funds among its member hospitals.
"We are proud to be working with our many vendors and with FFANY to help raise funding and awareness for such renowned women's cancer research centers," added QVC President and CEO Doug Briggs. "Since this event began eight years ago, Shoes on Sale has raised more than $10 million for breast cancer research and education programs at prominent cancer centers nationwide."
